Sherry Lynn was a faithful daughter to her two loving parents, Jack and Lora Lee (Clingan) Spurlock. They welcomed her into the world in Oakland, California on August 1, 1954 and gave her the opportunity to discover early that she could make any space in any corner of the world a home - be it California or Michigan, Mexico, Zaire or Kenya, Pennsylvania or Texas.
She was a loving sister to her two brothers Bob and Rick, and sister Sandra who all survive her. They were the earliest recipients of her nurturing kindness.
She was a friend and mentor to the countless number of souls that were welcomed unconditionally into her home and heart - as missions support for Wings of Calvary, pioneering homeschooler, organic food coop organizer and as “Aunt Sherry” - adoptive mom to hundreds at Camp Streamside.
She was a student-for-life, who claimed that her best education started years after acquiring her B.A. - when she became her children’s teacher. With a wide breadth of interest, and ever expanding shelves and stacks, books were forever in her home, in her hands, in her conversation.
She was a mother to four children - the pride of her life - Jeremy, Jessie, Jamie and Julianna - and their spouses - Hollie, Sonny, Ben and Billy - and spiritual mom to dozens from every continent on the globe.
She was a grandmother to ten grandchildren - Rafi, Riya, Shai, Caleb, Azi, Eden, Tracy, Nava, Athena and Levi, each of whom knew that they were her favorite one, and that she was their biggest fan.
She was the one beloved of her soulmate, Dale, her foundation in the home they built together. He was by her side as she was gathered to her fathers on July 14, 2020, enfolded into the presence of the God she loved and served with all her heart, soul, and strength.
She leaves it to all those who were the recipients of her expansive love to carry the sparks of her insatiable curiosity, her warm acceptance and her gracious kindness into their corners of the world.
