Phillip Edwin Greenawalt, AKA Pastor Phil or to some Pastor Joy, who's spirit left his body and joined Christ’s followers in Heaven on April 18, 2021. Pastor Phil was born on August 4, 1952, in Seagoville, Texas to the late Edwin “Tom” Greenawalt and Effie Jean (Swaim) Greenawalt. He grew up in the Seagoville community and after graduating high school went on to graduate from Henderson County Community College and Dallas Baptist University. Phil was ordained at Robinwood Baptist Church in Seagoville. He was involved with many ministries throughout his life. Pastor Joy loved more than anything delivering God’s message to others, leading people to Jesus one on one and singing to Jesus with all his might. Where does one begin to tell Phil’s story? He served Norwood Height’s Church in Palestine while in college, Youth, Music and Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church in Eustace, Dogwood Baptist Church in Athens which saw numerous salvations and the biggest numbers seen in east Texas, Woodland Height’s Baptist in Jacksonville, Hepsibah Baptist Church in Winnsboro and In One Accord Ministries. Pastor Joy was serving as the Apostolic Covering for River of Grace in Ben Wheeler and Cross Pointe Church in Madisonville. He was an ordained pastor for Ministries of Vision International and God gave him the vision for the creation of Connecting Fires Ministry. He was currently leading worship at Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church and Victory Church in Sulphur Springs. Pastor Phil had served as President of the Seagoville Chamber of Commerce. Among his many other gifts, Phil had worked in the oil patch and built his own home while ministering in Athens. It would not surprise anyone to know that Phil loved to travel. He led bible studies in east Texas and northeast Texas at various restaurant’s including Bodacious BBQ in Winnsboro, Annie Mae’s in Winnsboro, and Whataburger in Seagoville. He loved Jesus with all his heart, and he loved people. His infectious personality and loving counsel were so attractive. Pastor Phil is survived by his wife, Kristi (Curry) Greenawalt; son, Ryan Greenawalt (Evan); daughters, Dawn Martin and Joy Lay (Ben); brother, Paul Greenawalt (Shelly); sisters, Jan Cole, Gail Davis, Jaye Story (Alan), Patty Greenawalt and Kim Bruner (Dennis); grandchildren, Kenzie Martin and Mattie Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and an enormous amount of family in Christ. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and a lifetime friend and brother Troy Freeman. A celebration of God and Phil’s life will be held on Sunday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. in the Hopkins County Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. A graveside interment for family will occur at a later date and time in Seagoville so Phil can be buried near his parents. In lieu of flowers, a Love offering to assist his wife Kristi with the funeral expenses can be made by going to the website of In One Accord Ministries and click the donate tab designating donation to Kristi Greenawalt or sending a donation in care of In One Accord Ministries, 721 Connaly St., Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.

Phil surely lived up to the name Pastor Joy. ♥️ He was a great witness for Jesus and steadfast friend and brother in Christ. I can’t even imagine the celebration going on in our Fathers house right now for His good and faithful servant Pastor Joy. ♥️🙏🏻✝️
