Obituary for Oleta Fanell Wright (Fikes)

Oleta Fanell Fikes Wright, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at home on May 21, 2021.
She was born September 11, 1930 in Scroggins, TX to Jesse Franklin and Josie Ola Fikes. Except for a brief time in Dallas, she made her life-long home in Scroggins.
Oleta married Allen Lokey Wright on July 31, 1955, and together they built a Christ-centered home, filled with love, that endured even after Allen’s passing in 1982.
As a wife, mother, and grandmother, Oleta was a blessing to her family. She spent many hours supporting her daughters’ schools and school activities. She was a fabulous cook, talented seamstress, and enjoyed all forms of needlework. Oleta found great joy playing the piano and played daily for years.
She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church where she taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Along with her husband, Allen, she learned to play and excel at golf. They spent many, happy hours on the golf course as a couple, and also as a family with their daughters.
Oleta was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters, and one brother.
Left to treasure her memory are two daughters Beverly (Danny) Sorrells of Gilmer, Tx; Sally (Mike) Gowanlock of Marshall, Tx; Three grandchildren whom she adored, Casey Sorrells of Gilmer, TX, Abbey (Nikki) Sorrells of Cottage Grove, OR, and Hunter Gowanlock of Hallsville, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held in Scroggins, Tx at New Hope Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25th.
The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Renee Jones and Heartsway Hospice, especially Liz, Toby, and Allison, who so lovingly assisted Beverly with Mom’s care.
