Obituary for Merlene Lohr (Roberts)

Mrs. Merlene Lohr 78 of Sulphur Springs passed into the loving arms of her Savior during the early morning of Thursday September 24, 2020. Merlene was born in Sulphur Springs, TX on Thursday September 3, 1942 to the late George Riley Roberts and Lessie Cannaday Roberts. On July 4th, 1963 Merlene was married to the love of her life, Norman Ray Lohr. She was a bookkeeper for many years with Chamness Farms. Merlene had a love of visiting with her friends and shopping. She could be called a regular fashionista. She was a very strong, independent, beautiful woman who cared deeply for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was known by her grandchildren as "Granny" or "Granny Grump". She served on the Como-Pickton School Board. She attended the Como First United Methodist Church and was a life long resident of Como, TX. Merlene is survived by her children Jonathan Lohr and his wife Kristie, Daughter Brandi Wilkinson and her husband Jacent. Grandchildren, Meagan and Justin Lohr, Dakota Shelby, Barron Wilkinson, Zach Terry and Jacelyn Wilkinson. Great Grandchildren, Jeremiah Freeman, Natalie Freeman, Bentley Shelby; two sisters Bobbie Turner Owens and LaNeitta Moore, many neices, nephews, other family and many loving friends. The family would like to thank Hopkins Place, Carriage House Manor Nursing Facility and Choice Hospice for the care provided to Merlene during her times of need. Visitation will be Saturday September 26 at Beaty Funeral Home 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX. Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery located on County Road 2350 in Franklin County. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Como First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 153 Como, TX or the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
