Obituary for Ruth Carpenter

Mary Ruth Carpenter, age 99, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called to her heavenly home on May 14, 2022. She was born July 4, 1922 to Monroe Robert Knight and Eliza Ellen Emery Knight. She married R.D. Carpenter on July 26, 1939. A wife and homemaker, their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Sue Carpenter Marez and Donna Carpenter Britton. After spending time living in Big Spring, Texas while R.D worked at Webb Air Force base, they returned home to Winnsboro, Texas in 1993. Together, they enjoyed time in the Big Spring Sheriff’s Posse, camping in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and the evening hymn singings at area churches.
A strong Christian lady, she lived life with grace, love, and a quick wit that always left you with a smile and a chuckle. She made the best homemade bread, biscuits, fried chicken, and chocolate pie you could ever eat, and you knew you would never leave hungry when you went for a visit. She loved her family dearly, and they gave her much joy. We will cherish the memories we have of her going forward, and find comfort in knowing we will see her again someday. In her last few weeks on this earth, she would sing, "Lord, plant my feet on higher ground." She was able to do just that as she entered through Heaven’s gates.
She is preceded in death by her husband, R.D., her parents, daughter Sue Marez, and grandson, Dennis Kemp. She is survived by her daughter Donna Britton and husband Lewis, granddaughters Brooke Ingersoll and husband Jeremy, and Cathy Pannabaker and husband Egan, along with grandsons Gabriel Marez and wife Christy and James Kemp; and great-grandsons Colt and Brady Ingersoll and Brandon Marez, We love you memaw...a bushel and a peck.
Ruth’s family would like to send a special thank you to her other family, the staff of Lakeview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, whom she loved dearly. We appreciate you all so very much for your loving care of her these last four years.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Maple Springs Cemetery HWY 11 E. Newsome, TX at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kevin Hollowell conducting.
