Juanita Pearl Pack Brandt Barker, 91, of Newsome, affectionately known as “Wanda,” went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 5, 2020. Wanda was born on June 16, 1929 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She grew up as part of a large and very loving blended family. She attended school in Wichita Falls through the 11th grade and then married her sweetheart, Grady Erie Brandt, who was a soldier just back from World War II on January 11, 1945. Together they settled in Grand Prairie and raised one daughter, Emlon Juanell Brandt (Smith). After Grady passed away suddenly in 1971, Wanda luckily found love again and married Theo Vance Barker on August 17, 1973, also gaining step-daughter, Paula Barker (Sebastian) in the process. Throughout her life, Wanda worked in several industries including hairdressing/cosmetology, apartment management, restaurant ownership and operation, home healthcare and farming. Regardless of her occupation, serving God and taking care of her home and family remained her top priorities. She attended church and was a member at Newsome Baptist Church and served as a volunteer for the local Meals on Wheels program for many years. Those who knew her, would describe her as welcoming and hospitable to any and every guest, as well as generous and compassionate with her affection, time and material goods. She never had great monetary wealth, but she had a rich and loving spirit. She exemplified Christ’s love to everyone she met. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Bratton Pack and Martha Francis Vaughn Pack, brothers, James F. Pack, John Spencer Pack, Jess Ottis Pack, Delbert Mooton Pack and Earl Eugene Pack, sisters, Marybell Williams Caywood, Therma Louise Williams Jacobson and Lucy Pearline Pack, two husbands, Grady Brandt and Vance Barker, son-in-law, Thomas Martin Smith and great-grand son, Maximus Zavier Smith. She is survived by sister, Wilma Nell Willey, daughter, Emlon Juanell “Nell” Brandt Smith, step-daughter, Paula Sebastian, grandsons, Bryan Smith and wife Joy and Damon Barker and wife Patti, granddaughters, Denise Smith and partner Donna Porter and Lisa Sebastian and partner Adrian Gallerdo, great-grandsons, Nicholas Smith, AJ Smith, Vance Barker, Ethan Gallerdo and Evan Gallerdo and great-granddaughters, Heather Smith and Hannah Barker, as well as many other extended family members and countless friends. In lieu of flowers, you may choose to honor Wanda with a donation to Newsome Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels or your local food bank, or by simply “paying it forward” by helping someone who is in need.
