Obituary for Jerry Hart Schwen

Jerald Hart Schwen, Sr (Jerry) went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 27, 2020 at age 85. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease a few years ago, he passed peacefully in his sleep.
Jerry was born to Hart Everet Schwen and Lucille Margret Dorcas on June 7, 1935 in Berkey, Ohio. He graduated from Burnham High School, Sylvania, Ohio in 1954 where he served as Senior class president and excelled in sports. After graduation, Jerry immediately joined the United States Marine Corps. Corporal Schwen served from 1954 to 1957 during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was recognized for his “honorable” service by receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge from the Marines, he learned to fly and became a flight instructor. But everyone knows, once a Marine, always a Marine. That was true of Jerry. He was a patriot.
While working as a flight instructor, he met his first wife and mother of his children, Gloria Ann Miller. They had 3 sons: Jack, Jerry and Jeff. Jerry and Gloria divorced several years later.
Jerry began Thoroughbred Associates in the 1970’s. He represented various sporting goods and police equipment manufacturers. Many awards were presented to Jerry for his accomplishments throughout the years.
Jerry met and married Linda Blundell then moved to Winnsboro, Tx where Linda had lived while growing up. In the early years of their marriage, Jerry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and his life changed.
Through his process of growing in faith, Jerry searched the scriptures daily. He learned about the grace of God who forgives us and cleanses us from sin.
His children and grandchildren often received notes from him in the mail and by text. Jerry was always trying to encourage his loved ones in their faith in Christ. Notes in his Bible stated Luke 9:23 “Surrender to Christ’s Lordship, call to Discipleship in total submission…obedience.” “Obedience! In Jesus Christ…not by letter of the law because you have to, (but because) you love to obey all that is of God.”
Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church Winnsboro. He loved his Lord, his country, his family and friends. He had a great impact on many with whom he came in contact. After retiring, he enjoyed tending his cows and farm. He also enjoyed watching western movies. Some in the family compared him to John Wayne.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Hart E and Lucille M Schwen and his wife, Linda B. Schwen.
He is survived by sons - Jack Schwen and wife, Lois of Sulphur Springs, TX; Jerry Schwen and wife, Belinda of Manvel, TX; Jeff Schwen and wife, Donna of Benton, AR and daughter, Vicki Hofert of Mineola, TX.
