Jennie May Rietz
PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 12, 2022
Our beloved Mother, Sister, Grammakins, Grammy, Jennie May Rietz, died
peacefully on Monday, the 12th of December 2022. She was born on the 2nd of
January in 1931 to Milton and Belle Spiro in New York, New York. She had an
older sister, Joan (deceased) and is survived by her younger brother Bob.
In 1949 she married Edwin Ulanoff and had two beautiful children Robin and
Barry. In September of 1959 she found the love of her life and remarried John T.
Rietz. With John, she had two other children Jeff and Dean. She was married to
John for 47 years until his death in 2006.
Jennie led a full life, centered around her family, businesses with John, and
friends. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting parties and entertaining
friends and business associates. Probably the most exciting part of her life was
working with John and Jeff, building and running a resort in Belize, Central
America.
Jennie was the ultimate aficionado with manners and proper etiquette. The
grandchildren affectionately nicknamed her as “miss manners.” She was always
dressed fashionably and hated when any of the kids or grandkids were
disheveled.
Jennie is preceded in death by her husband, John T. Rietz, her parents and her
sister, Joan Stern, and her son-in law Arthur Singer. She is survived by her
daughter, Robin, her sons, Barry, Jeff and Dean and daughters in law, Paula,
Maria, and Sheri; her grandchildren, Rachel and Zach Wolf, Will, Amanda, and
Michelle Singer, Zach and Kristen Rietz and Casey Rietz, and Alexa Rietz; and
her great-grandchildren, Violet and Shiloh Wolf, and Rigsby, Ella Mae, and Adley
Rietz.
The family will have a private interment at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago at a
future date to be determined.
The family would like to thank The Hospice of East Texas, for their love, respect
and professional, compassionate care for our mother during these last few
