Obituary for Howard Lee Hunt

Howard Lee Hunt, 98 years old, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on October 27, 2022. He was born on June 26, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rex Hendrix Hunt and Ethel Hunt. He was proceeded in death by both parents ages 88, brother Gordon age 85, wife Betty age 88 after 65 years of marriage, son Lee age 68, and daughter Karen age 58. Survivors include daughter-in-law Betty Hunt, grandson Christopher Hunt, grandson Brent Hunt and wife Veronica and great granddaughter Dallas, granddaughter Leigh Janecka and husband Craig, great grandsons Landry and Hudson, and granddaughter Kayla Bryson.

Howard graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1942. He enlisted in military service for WW2 and was called to active duty in April 1943. He entered the Army Air Force having trained on both B-17 and B-29 bombers and received his wings as a Flight Office Bombardier for B-29 on July 4, 1945. He was honorably discharged November 1945.

Howard was engaged to high school sweetheart Betty Soderland in April 1946, and married September 1, 1946. He entered college at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in January 1946 and worked and attended year-round classes to graduate June 1948 with a BCS Retailing degree. He worked in Corpus Christi and Dallas, Texas, as a Buyer, Merchandise Manager and Vice President of Marketing for department stores, chain grocery and drug stores. Howard truly enjoyed his career and had a passion for his industry and colleagues.

Howard and wife Betty retired in 1985, and built a home along the Holly Lake Ranch golf course in 1986 in Texas. He and Betty enjoyed tennis, golf, cards, bridge club, travel, community theater, and church activities. They traveled extensively by car, bus, plane and ship in the United States and Europe. They were continually active in their community and church and had a rich, endearing, and fruitful Christian life. Howard was a loving husband, son, & father genuinely dedicated to family. He loved people and expressed it with a smile. He believed in the strength of family, developing a career, having passion for what one chooses to do in life, living in the moment, fellowship, working hard, fulfilling commitments, earning an honest living, being patriotic & serving his country, contributing to the community, attending church, talking with God everyday through prayer, and taking the time to have fun along the way.

Funeral service will be held at Beaty Funeral Home, located at 5320 S. State Highway 37, Mineola, TX 75773, www.beatyfuneralhome.com. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to funeral service at 2:00 pm Monday 10/31/22, and 3:30 graveside service at Holly Tree Cemetery.
