Gayla Wells, age 77, passed away quietly on Monday, August 29, 2022, in Winnsboro, Texas. Gayla was born in Wood County, Texas on March 2, 1945, to Joe and Valta Mills. She attended Cartwright Elementary School and Winnsboro High School. Upon graduation, Gayla moved to Dallas and had a career with Mercantile National Bank, then the US General Accounting Office. She received many accolades throughout her career, including a 2-year position in Germany, where she enjoyed travel throughout Europe. Gayla was a loving wife and stepmother. She loved her family heritage and retiring to the family homestead in Cartwright brought her great joy. She was always up for a lunch with family and friends, berry picking, sister trip, or game of pitch -- and it was always good to have her as a partner. Her laughter was contagious, and she could always be counted on whenever, wherever or whatever the need. Gayla was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Roy Mills. She is survived by a stepson Scott Wells, a stepdaughter Misty Cook (David) and their 3 children (Kasey, Lauren, Micah), 4 sisters and 3 brothers: Nelda Sue LupPlace (Gene), Sylvia Cherry (Dennis), Mary Christopherson (Craig), Linda Murr (Dennis), Joe Jack Mills (Pearl), Dan Mills (Pam), Hershel Mills (Gina), and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Gayla's life will be held on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro, Texas.
