Obituary

Doris Elizabeth “Beth” Bellomy McDonough Newkirk, age 89, was born September 11, 1930 to John Wilson Bellomy and Julia Lillian Tinney Bellomy in Winnsboro, Texas. Beth passed away peacefully at Seton Williamson Hospital on August 4, 2020.

Beth was preceded in death by parents, Wilson and Lillian Bellomy, infant son, Redger Timothy "Timmy" Newkirk; daughter, Dianna McDonough Gay; and brothers, Wallace Bellomy and Joe Bellomy. She is survived by her son, Kem McDonough and wife, Debbie; daughters, Lecia Brown, and Sharrie’ Collins, and husband, John.

Affectionately known as Mema, she is survived by seven grandchildren; Chase McDonough, Brandon Rohde, Travis Parker, Teletha Brodd, Christian McDonough, Keaton Collins, and Madison DeAnda. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

As she started out in life, she was born amidst The Great Depression era. She grew up and planted deep roots in Winnsboro, TX. She was very proud to call Winnsboro home. She often referred to her birthplace as the Piney Woods of God’s country. She grew up in a little farmhouse that had an outhouse. Later her father added the indoor bathroom to the house. She married Redger Newkirk and they had a son named Timothy. Timothy had a severe heart defect and passed away shortly after birth. Redger and Beth parted ways.

She moved to Houston to be close to her brothers, Wallace and Joe, to start fresh. She began working in retail and met a young man named Martin “Marty” McDonough. They married, Marty joined the Army, and Beth took on the life of an Army wife. They traveled several places, including Europe. This unity expanded their family with four beautiful children, Kem, Lecia, Sharrie’, and Dianna.

She worked in retail and even modeled for Montgomery Ward department store. She also worked at Wal-Mart, retiring after 15 years of dedicated service with the company. During her time with Wal-Mart, she moved back to her family home with her grandson, Chase. After raising Chase, she stayed in her home until she moved to Hutto, Texas, where she has lived with her son for the past few years.

She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all are her heart, mind and soul. Any church event, Beth was there and with her famous totally made from scratch chocolate pies. She served the Lord with all her strength, and also worked in the church in the nursery and prayer team.

Beth’s faith in the Lord was strong. God blessed her is so many ways. We will all miss her very much.
