Obituary for Donald "Cleatus" Ledford

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Cleatus Ledford "Cleatus" , a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on the leap year anomaly, February 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on October 1, 1938, in Pocahontas, Tennessee, to Oner Dell Ledford and Hazel Crum, Cleatus's early years laid the foundation for a life rich in family, music, and storytelling.

Though details of his upbringing, educational pursuits, and career remain personal, Cleatus's life was marked by an unwavering devotion to his family, a passion for writing and playing music, and an innate ability to gather loved ones with his warm spirit and engaging stories. His talents and hobbies were not confined to him alone but were generously shared, creating lasting memories and a legacy of love.

Cleatus's life was further enriched by his extensive family, who were not only his pride but also his joy. He leaves behind his sons, Don Ledford and wife Debbie, Ronnie Ledford, Ryan Ledford and wife Sarah; daughters, Teresa Ledford, Melissa Henderson and past husband Joseph, Christie Lott, Amy Lott; his siblings, Winston Ledford and wife Debbie, Sue Williams and husband David, Nina Nair and husband Ryan; along with his cherished fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. A special mention is made of his nephew, Ramesh Nair, whom Cleatus held dear. His family was the epicenter of his world, and each member held a unique place in his heart.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Ledford, as well as his former wife Gladys Louise Yount, his parents, Oner Dell and Hazel Crum, his brother, Glen Ledford, and his sisters, Odell Hardison and Sadie Bradley. The legacy of Cleatus's kind spirit, passion for life, and love for his family will live on through them.

Cleatus's life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the value of storytelling, and the depth of familial bonds. While he held no public titles, his life was significant in the love he gave and the lives he touched. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life—a life well-lived, filled with moments of love, laughter, and music.

A gathering to celebrate Cleatus's life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, they ask that you perform an act of kindness in his memory or share a story or song that reminds you of him, keeping his spirit alive in the beauty of everyday moments.

Donald Cleatus Ledford "Cleatus" will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Yet, we find comfort in knowing his legacy will continue through the stories shared, the music played, and the memories cherished by all who were fortunate enough to be part of his journey. Rest in peace, Cleatus, until we meet again.
