Obituary for Bruce McReynolds Thorn

Bruce McReynolds  Thorn
Bruce Thorn, age 71 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, October 26th, 2018 in Tyler. He was born on November 1st, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Leslie Thorn and Vera Kinsburg. While in college Bruce was drafted and served in the Navy. He received both the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He ministered at First West Church in Monroe, LA and was one of the founding members of Freedmen Ministries. Bruce was very active in prison ministry and volunteered for the Food Bank as well. He was preceded in death by wife, Susan Thorn. He is survived by, daughters, Cherrie Thorn and her husband James of West Monroe, LA and Vera Thorn-Munholland and her husband Reyn of Monroe, LA; brothers, Alan Thorn of New Brunsfield, TX, David Charlton of Pittsburgh, PA, Eric Charlton of Syracuse, NY and George Charlton of Woodbridge, VA; sisters, Cynthia Raff of Myrtle Beach, SC, Deborah Powell of Ontario, Canada, and Catherine White of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Ariel, Faith, Reed, Winter, and Lydia. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29th, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Rosehill Baptist Church - 1420 County Road 2460 Mineola, Texas 75773 with a Funeral Service to follow at 2 pm. Rev. Daniel Westley and Rev. Jeff Thompson will be conducting. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Gardens in Mineola, with Tom Moore, Woody Weimer, Payton Thorn, James Baker, Reyn Munholland, and Alan Thorn serving as active pallbearers and Larry Thomas serving as an honorary pallbearer.
