GEORGE GLENN MELVIN
George was born July 28, 1946 to Lowie & Inez Perryman Melvin in Lindale, Texas. George graduated from Lindale High School in 1964. And then served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War. He was a
Sergeant. He also attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler.
George married his sweetheart Brenda K. Thomas Melvin on August 20, 1966. George & Brenda were blessed with 3 children Scott, Jill & Todd.
After returning from Vietnam George provided for his family at Wanda Petroleum later known as Suburban Propane Gas, retiring after 29.5 years. After retirement George worked as a mail carrier for the Mineola US Post Office.
He gave countless hours of time and service to the youth of Mineola as Director and President of the Mineola Youth Foundation Board as well as a coach and umpire. He also served as a director of the Greater Wood County Baseball/Softball Association and Mineola Athletic Booster Club.
George was instrumental in the organization of the Hainesville VFD and served as the first Fire Chief.
He was Hochheim Prairie Insurance Branch President and served as a director and delegate for numerous years.
George was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
His interests were spending time with family & friends; baseball, golf, traveling, westerns and reading.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Janice Young and Melva Nichols; Brother-in-law, Don Nichols; niece, Kim Nichols Burks and Parents-in-Law Truman and Vivian Thomas.
Survived by his loving wife Brenda, 2 Sons & Daughter-in-law: Scott & Leah Melvin of Mineola, Todd & Cece Melvin of Little Elm; Daughter and Son-in-Law Jill & Ricky Quiambao of Mineola; Grandchildren: Emily Melvin, Thomas Melvin, Audri Dunwoody, Ella Melvin, Angel Alvarado, Damien Alvarado, Trae Cruz, Makena Quiambao, Camden Quiambao; Brother & Sister-in-law: Jim & Beverly Melvin of Lindale; Sister & Brother-in-law: Susan & Gary Camp of Lindale; Brother-in-law: Larry Joe Thomas of Mineola and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, & friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Texas. Funeral Services for Mr. Melvin will be held at 10 am, Friday, August 31, 2018 at Rosehill Baptist Church.
