Obituary for Leta Wynelle Westbrook (Scalf)

Leta Wynelle Westbrook (Scalf)
Leta Scalf Westbrook, age 89, of Mineola, TX, formerly a long time resident of Dallas passed away peacefully into God’s hands on Friday, November 17, 2017 after battling an illness. She was born in Denison, TX to the late Taylor B and Hazel Ritter Scalf on September 26, 1928. She married the love of her life, Roy A. (Milton) Westbrook in 1948. The couple were happily married for 65 years and had two children, Roy Ann and James “Jim”.
Leta was a graduate of the Methodist Hospital Nursing School where she received her registered nursing degree, eventually retiring after over 40 years of nursing. She accomplished much in her life but she was most proud of her family; her pride and joy. She was a dedicated wife, involved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She welcomed three grandchildren and four great grandchildren into her heart over her lifetime. Leta loved being close to her family and especially looked forward to spending holidays and Sunday dinners with them. Keeping close to her family and spending time with them was always very important to her. She was also a member of Rosemont Christian Church in Dallas and later First Christian Church of Mineola and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Leta was the beloved wife of the late Roy A. Westbrook who doted on her and loved her more than anything. She was the proud mother to Roy Ann Miller, her husband Wayne of Mineola; her son, James “Jim” Westbrook who predeceased her, and his wife Lindee of DeSoto. She was also the loving “Granny” to granddaughter Nancy Phonsnasinh, her husband Gar and their daughter Emily of Mineola; grandson Jack Baird and his wife Jill and their daughter Makenzie of Rockwall; and grandson James Westbrook, his wife Megan and their two daughters Haley and Hannah of Waxahachie. She is survived by her sister Doris Parker and brother T.B. “Sonny” Scalf, his wife Margaret; and Roy Curran, her loving brother in law. She also leaves behind a host of caring relatives and friends that touched her life throughout the years. She will be missed by all those who loved and respected her but never forgotten.
Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Mineola on December 15, 2017 at 2pm and her loved ones would be honored by the presence of her friends and family to help celebrate her life.
