Obituary for Emmett Roger Dixon

Emmett Roger Dixon
Emmett Roger Dixon was born on Tuesday, October 11, 1932 at home on the old Bishop Place in Mineola, TX. He earned his crown of glory on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. He was raised on the family farm in Sand Springs, TX. Emmett graduated from Golden High School and attended Paris Jr. College before being drafted into the Korean War. He served in the Navy from February 4, 1952 to December 30, 1953. After his discharge from the service he moved to Houston, TX and went to work for Folgers Coffee Company. Soon after arriving to Houston, he met the lady who stole his heart for the rest of his life. Emmett and Claudette were married on February 18, 1956 and the next 61 years are history. Together they had three sons, Jerry, Roger and Tommy.
Emmett worked hard his entire life. As a young boy, he worked on his family farm picking watermelons and was responsible for warming up the school house during the winter time. He worked at Folgers for 15 years and the Houston Corrugated Box Company for 7 years. Emmett retired from Wicks ā€˜nā€™ Sticks (Flintlock) in 1999 after 24 years of dedicated service as Production Manager.
After his retirement, Emmett & Claudette returned to his beloved East Texas. They built a new home on the old homestead in 2001 and have enjoyed spending their time with their family, gardening, taking care of their very spoiled cows and Happy Jack.
Emmett loved the Lord and always had the most appropriate prayers for the occasion. He grew up attending the Sand Springs Baptist Church when it was just a pavilion in the cemetery.
He lived his life as we all should aspire to. Emmett was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and uncle. He was the kind of man you would be lucky to call friend. Emmett was dearly loved and will be forever missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett "Coot" Dixon and Odell Smiley Dixon, sister, Bonnie Mize, brother, Gaston Dixon and grandson, Eli Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Claudette Dixon of Mineola; sons, Jerry Dixon and his wife Paula of Cold Springs, TX, Roger Emmett Dixon of Mineola, Tommy Dixon and his wife Natalie of Terrell; brother, Charles Dixon of Friendswood; grandchildren, Jeremiah Harris, Jeremy Dixon, Erica & Dave Mallow, Michael & Sarah Dixon, Taylor Dixon and one great granddaughter, Maddie Dixon.
