Obituary for Joseph J. Myers

Joseph J.  Myers
Joseph J. Myers passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 in Mineola, Texas. He was born on Monday, April 6, 1931, to Joseph H. and Bessie Dyer Brown Myers in El Dorado, KS. The family moved to rural Cassoday, KS when Joe was about six years old where he attended public school, graduating from Cassoday High School in 1950. He worked a variety of jobs close to home so he could maintain the family farm. Among the jobs was being a toll collector on the Kansas Turnpike Authority and later doing remodeling carpentry.
He married Reta Richmond on August 12, 1961, in Park City, KS, and they raised three children, Kevin, Scott and Janet, on the family farm outside of Cassoday. In 1977, he moved his family to Garland, TX, for better financial opportunities. He worked as subcontract labor for a while before being employed by Lone Star Plywood and Door in Irving, TX. In 1988, he and Reta moved to Lake Holbrook west of Mineola to indulge in fishing and a slower pace of life. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his shop.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, twin sister JoAnn, half-sisters Nellie Wojciechowski, Grace Pumphrey, Lois Cortner, Edith Wilburn, Hazel Howery, half-brothers Charles Myers, Frank Myers, Raymond Brown and Allen Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Reta; brother, Harold (Hal) Myers, Fort Worth; sons Kevin Mark Dallas, Scott Allen, Mineola; daughter Janet (Alan) Osterloh, Alvarado; granddaughter Sarah Noel Angell and grandson Douglas Angell; step-granddaughters Chera (Ben) Rosemann and Rachel Osterloh, and step-great-grandson Jensen Rosemann; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Mineola from 1-2 PM. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM officiated by Dr. Mark Neeley. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International, National Stroke Association, National Parkinson’s Association, and First Baptist Church, Mineola.
