Obituary for Carolyn Emrick (Rasberry)

Carolyn Emrick (Rasberry)
On February 22, 2018, Carolyn Lee Emrick, age 73, passed away at her home in Mineola, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Carolyn Lee Rasberry was born on June 30, 1944, at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, Texas, to Otis William Rasberry and Ursie Lee Womack. Carolyn grew up in Vickery, Texas--an area in Dallas near Park Lane and Greenville Avenue--along with her younger brother Bill. Upon graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1962, she put herself through cosmetology school by working at the local morgue. She met and married John Daniel Nelson and had two daughters, Tiffany and Brittany. As a licensed cosmetologist, Carolyn successfully owned and operated two beauty salons, both located in Lake Highlands.

Carolyn was very involved in her girls lives and the local community in which she lived. She was always on the go and her hobbies included painting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She always made time for her family, friends and coworkers. On February 23, 1996, she met the love of her life, Gregory Brown Emrick, through some mutual friends. They married on September 26th of that same year. They resided in Garland, Texas for 8 years before deciding city life didn’t suit them anymore. They bought a beautiful lake house on Lake Holbrook in Mineola which they lived at for 11 years. In April of 2015, they downsized to a house in downtown Mineola.

To keep herself busy in Mineola, Carolyn volunteered for Meals on Wheels as well as the local nursing home where she would provide free haircuts. She was involved with the Lake Holbrook Homeowners Association while living on the lake. Carolyn and Greg believed in supporting the local gathering place, otherwise known as VFW Post #7523, where Carolyn served as a member and Officer of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Gregory Brown Emrick of Mineola, TX; her daughter Tiffany Malone of Dallas, TX; her daughter Brittany Martin and husband Adam of Plano, TX; her step-son Spencer Emrick and wife Tish of Dallas, TX; her 6 grandchildren, Ashley Russell, Jennifer Malone, Joshua Malone, Brandon Malone, Mason Clark and Evan Emrick, and her great granddaughter Madelyn Faye Trevino. She is preceded in death by her father, Otis William Rasberry, her mother Ursie Lee Brown, her step-father Walter Brown and her younger brother George William Rasberry.

The family will hold a memorial service Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:30 am at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Texas located at 5320 S. State Hwy 37, Mineola, TX 75773.
