Obituary for Nelson Hart Dyess

Nelson Hart Dyess
Dyess, Dr. Nelson Hart
Died peacefully at his home, tended by loved ones on July 7, 2016. He was 86 years of age. Nelson was born in Oklahoma, the eldest child of his parents, Sam and Mueril Dyess. He spent his growing up years in Illinois, did his undergraduate work at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and received his medical degree at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Dyess enjoyed a successful, highly respected career in medicine which was launched as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force where he served for nine years. In 1964, Dr. Dyess began a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, and worked at the Arizona Heart Institute as a cardiovascular anesthesiologist for 32 years, retiring in 2004. Nelson was a devoted Christian, having made his profession of faith as a young boy, a faith that sustained him all the years of his life. He was a gifted physician, an adored husband, a committed father, and a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. His quiet strength, humility, gentleness, generosity, sharp mind, quick wit, and devotion to family and friends will be sorely missed. He is survived by his dear wife, Mary Alice, five daughters – Cris, Carla, Lori, Jennifer and Jill, fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his only brother, Don Dyess and three sisters, June Snyder, Linda Mouser, and Dianne Powell. Nelson’s memorial service is to be held at the Bethany Bible Church located at 6060 N. 7th Avenue in Phoenix on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley
