Mr. Richard Eugene Powell, age 90 of Mineola, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 in Mineola. He was born on September 7, 1927 in Dallas to the late Ernest Powell and Nancy Summers Powell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wena Powell and brothers, Earnest and Doug.
He is survived by his sons, Mike Powell and wife Debbie of Mineola, Jason Powell and wife Mica of Burnet; daughters, Amy Posey and husband Terry of Mineola, Sondra Clifton and husband Gil of Denton; sister, Francis Duckworth of Mabank; nine grandchildren, Cortni Broom, Mikki Burciaga, Joe Powell, Matt Powell, Layton Powell, T.J. Posey, Eric Posey, Laura Woodson, Stephane Solima; eight great grandchildren, Dylan, Ayden, Emily, Avery, Alana, Meredith, Mallory, Andy and three great great grandchildren.
Richard served over 28 years and retired as a Captain with the Mesquite Fire Department. He was a past president of the IAFF Firefighters Association local 1518 and was considered by many as the Firefighter of all Firefighters to the end.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home 5396 S. State Hwy. 37 Mineola, TX 75773. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at New Hope Cemetery FM 2422 Mineola, Texas 75773 at 2:30 pm, Father Lawrence Love conducting. A reception will follow at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.
