Obituary for Raymond Oliver Quarles

Raymond Oliver Quarles
born August 13, 1927, died on July 21, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents O.H. Ollie Quarles and Mary Elizabeth Walters Quarles,
by his wife, Patty Jean Farr Quarles, by his siblings Eva Quarles Terry and TJ Quarles.
He is survived by his three children, Timothy Ray Quarles and wife Debbie, of Nacogdoches
David Gene Quarles and wife Natasha, of Lone Star and Lepha Ann Luttrall and husband Jim of Yantis. One granddaughter, Mandy Quarles Stefl and husband Leon, of Nacogdoches.
Raymond grew up in the community of Iron Bluff, now known as Lone Star. As a young boy he helped to drag some of the first utility poles to get power to the community with his mule (the trucks kept getting stuck). He helped his Dad with the family farm. He started work at Lone Star Steel just 13 days shy of his 20th birthday and worked there 42 years. While there he helped to organize the steelworkers union.

After retiring he and his wife opened a small fish bait store and RV Park in the spring of 1985 on what was then the new lake in Wood county, Lake Fork. The store was only open a few years before closing due to the death of his wife Patty, but the RV Park remains open still.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rock Hill Cemetery Association, which is where he and his wife are buried. Rock Hill Cemetery Assocition, P.O. Box 1365, Quitman, Tx 75783.
